Mission Statement
The mission of EduCare Learning Centers, Inc. is to provide
the highest possible quality of supplemental educational programs. We
are committed to employees who embody that tradition and we are
dedicated to customers who embrace that standard. Our primary focus,
without exception, is to ensure that student performance matches
potential. And to that end we pledge our resources, fix our resolve, and
stake our reputation. |
|
We Believe...
|
That all
students are capable of reaching their potential,
but often in their own unique manner and always
at their
own individual pace...
That enhanced
student self-concept and heightened
self-esteem always precede higher achievement...
That high
expectations are reasonable expectations for each
and every student...
That everything we
do can and must be measurable, and
finally...
That with any and
all EduCare programs, learning should
always be fun.

History
Humble beginnings…1993
June 30, 1993, marked the final day of a ten-year term that Kevin
McCarville served as principal at Cedar Rapids Regis High School. The
afternoon of that same day EduCare
Learning Centers, Inc. was founded. Armed with three #2 pencils and a
pad of legal size paper, Kevin and his wife Rebecca began to sketch out
the design of the company at their kitchen table. Over the next month,
the company’s core values were formulated and the initial

instructional programs developed. On Monday, September 6,
the company
opened its first center in Iowa City, Iowa, in the old Colonial Park
Office Building. Kevin served as president and director of the Iowa City center for
two years while Rebecca assumed the role of company vice president. By
the spring of 1995 the enrollment of the Iowa City center had grown so
rapidly that extensive remodeling and expansion of the original center
was necessitated. In the summer of 1995 Cassandra Hintz was hired to
serve as the center’s director and the company’s first full-time employee.

Second center opens…1995
On Monday, June 12,
1995, EduCare Learning
Centers, Inc. opened its second center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Cedar
Rapids center, modeled after the original design in Iowa City, was
located in the North Park Place business complex. The enrollment of the
second center also grew rapidly necessitating relocation to a facility
twice the size of the original. The current location at the Collins
Center in northeast Cedar Rapids

is a state-of-the-art learning center
facility with an open general instruction area, several individual
instruction rooms, group conference room, large reception area,
administrative offices and a five-station internet-wired computer
center. In the summer of 1998 the Iowa City center was sold to a
Wisconsin company under a proprietary licensing agreement. The Iowa City
center was then moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin, and operates to date as
an EduCare
Learning Systems center in Green Bay offering the same proprietary
services as the Cedar Rapids center.

Contracted services introduced…1996
|
|
In the
spring of 1996 EduCare
Learning Centers, Inc. pioneered the concept of delivering contracted
instructional programs to Iowa schools when it secured its first
contract with Trinity Lutheran Elementary School of Cedar Rapids. That
first contract provided for on-site Title One remedial reading and math
services at Trinity Lutheran. What made the arrangement unique was that
for the first time in Iowa, a state-accredited school contracted to

selected school-based instructional services provided by a
for-profit company. A second contract, this one with Isaac
Newton
Christian Academy was also secured
for similar on-site services, and again, to be delivered at that school
by EduCare for the 1996-97 school year. With the securing of those two
original contract agreements, the core program offerings of the EduCare
company grew significantly. From that point the traditional
center-delivered services were expanded to include a range of instructional
services delivered at local schools on a contract basis for an entire
academic school year. Today, EduCare
has grown to be Iowa’s leading provider of contracted instructional
services to public/nonpublic schools and institutions. Current
contracted services with area schools and institutions include study
skills seminars, Title One reading and math programs, Resource Room
support services, and comprehensive school management and instructional
programs in special education for behavior disordered students.

Today and Beyond…
|
|
The EduCare
Learning Centers, Inc. of today bears only a passing resemblance to the
early designs sketched out at the McCarville family’s kitchen table.
Beginning in the fall of 1993 with three
part-time employees, and only three students, the company has grown
today to become one of the largest and most respected regional providers
of both learning center and school-based supplemental educational
programs. As Iowa’s first NCA accredited for-profit education company,
