Jeannine Jones Scholarship
-Supporting enrollment of
deserving students in the EduCare
Student Success Study Skills Program-
The
Jeannine Jones Scholarship was established in honor of Jeannine Jones of
Marion, Iowa. Jeannine was a past member and officer of the Board of
Directors of Cedar Rapids Regis High School. It was that school board that
hired, as principal in the spring of 1983, EduCare
founder Kevin McCarville. Over the years, Jeannine became a treasured
friend, mentor, and wellspring of support for Kevin. Her simple grace,
wisdom, and courage had a profound influence on him as he served as Regis
principal from 1983-93. Her influence continued in the summer of 1993 when
EduCare Learning Centers, Inc. was founded. There was never one major
decision made by Kevin when serving at Regis or while founding and
developing EduCare that was not
first communicated to Jeannine for her insight and opinion. And it was her
ever-wise counsel and always reassuring support that played an invaluable
role in shaping and sustaining the spirit of the EduCare
company during those early and sometimes difficult days. Accordingly, the
Jeannine Jones Scholarship was established to honor her memory and to
acknowledge the role she has played in our success.
Sr. Mary Carmelita Graham Scholarship
-Supporting enrollment of
deserving students in the EduCare
FASTRAC II Mastery Learning Program-
The
Sr. Mary Carmelita Graham Scholarship was established in honor of Sr. Mary
Carmelita Graham, a Tipton, Iowa, native and member of the Sisters of
Mercy religious community of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Sr. Mary Carmelita was a
faculty member at Regis High School of Cedar Rapids where EduCare
founder Kevin McCarville served as principal from 1983-93. During the
seven-year term of their work together Sr. Mary Carmelita became a close
friend of Kevin and his family. Sr. Mary Carmelita’s quiet, faithful
example of unselfish service to her students was legend at Regis. She was
particularly resourceful at working with students who were in need of
extra individualized attention. Sr. Mary Carmelita believed that all
students are capable of learning, but often at their own pace and
sometimes in their own unique manner. It was that conviction that served
to shape the initial development and eventual design of the EduCare
instructional model. In truth, every lesson ever delivered at EduCare
bears the signature of her warm and caring teaching style. Accordingly,
the Sr. Mary Carmelita Graham Scholarship was established to honor her
memory and to acknowledge the role she has played in our success.
Monsignor Edmund Becker Scholarship
-Supporting enrollment of deserving students in
the EduCare ACT/SAT Test Prep Program-
The Monsignor Edmund Becker Scholarship was
established in honor of Msgr. Edmund Becker, a Dyersville, Iowa,
native and long-term pastor of All Saints Catholic Church of Cedar Rapids,
Iowa. Msgr. Becker was the Executive Coordinator of the Regis High School
Board of Directors that hired EduCare
founder Kevin McCarville as principal in the spring of 1983. Msgr. Becker’s life was a unique example of
faith, character, and conviction. His work often included a visionary
leadership role in the initial formation and eventual construction of
several area schools and their related educational programs. His personal
example established a tradition of educational excellence
that continues today to serve as the standard for area parochial schools.
And it was that commitment to educational excellence that had a profound
influence on EduCare founder Kevin McCarville and helped shape the
core values of EduCare Learning Centers, Inc. company.
Accordingly, the Monsignor Edmund Becker Scholarship was established to
honor his memory and to acknowledge the role his example has played in our
success.
